Whittaker Parsons was delighted to take part in the recent RIBA panel discussion, How Do You Design a Practice?, held as part of the RIBA’s In Safe Hands exhibition.
Representing the practice, Matthew joined a panel of experienced architects and industry professionals to discuss the realities of establishing and running an architectural practice. The event brought together architecture students and practitioners for an open and honest conversation about the opportunities, challenges and lessons learned throughout the journey of building a business.
The discussion explored how running a practice, much like the design process itself, is rarely a linear path. Instead, it is an evolving process that demands resilience, adaptability and continual learning. Panellists reflected on their own experiences, sharing insights from the successes and setbacks that have shaped their practices over the years.
“It was a real pleasure to spend the evening speaking with the next generation of architects,” said Matt. “The students asked thoughtful questions and engaged in some genuinely honest conversations about the profession. We hope sharing our experiences helped provide a little more confidence as they begin shaping their own careers.”
