Mill Keeper’s Cottage: breathing new life into a dilapidated Mill Keeper’s Cottage, adjacent to Grade II Listed High’s drainage mill, on the Norfolk Broads
The existing 3-bedroom property is a 19th-century cottage with a poor-quality 20th-century single-storey wrap-around extension. The intention is to upgrade and restore the charming cottage and complete a deep retrofit on the existing extension, adding a generous new living area.
The new living space is positioned to the east of the property, to enable occupants to benefit from the south – eastern views across the expansive garden, the river Thurne and the enchanting landscape beyond.
Proposals are mindful of the special and unique setting of the Broads. The intention is to improve the site’s permeability and accessibility, optimise the performance of the building and reuse rainwater. Found materials on site will be salvaged and reused.
